The requirements for a sailing holiday vary throughout the world. In some destinations a simple signed sailing resume of experience is sufficient. In others, formal qualifications are required before hiring a vessel.

What sailing experience do I need?

In some destinations, novice sailors with little or no experience must undergo a pre-departure briefing. This covers boat operation and an area briefing. If you are travelling overseas and require qualifications, you can obtain them before you book a charter by undergoing some sail training through a local yacht club or sailing school. Alternatively, you can hire a skipper for part or all of your charter, so you can sit back and relax.
