If you are considering chartering overseas, some destinations require certain sailing qualifications. We can help you obtain qualifications by offering a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing course in the Whitsundays.

Not only will you finish the week's course with your RYA qualification, but you will also have enjoyed a week's sailing in the wonderful Whitsunday islands under the guidance of an experienced RYA instructor. Sailing courses run weekly from Monday to Friday from Hamilton Island Marina and operate all year and are designed to equip new sailors with the skills and confidence to handle charter vessels. Courses offered include:

  • Level 1 - Competent Crew. Pre-requisites: no prior sailing experience required.
  • Level 2 - Day Skipper. Pre-requisites: five days' sea time, 100 miles logged, four night hours logged, knowledge of navigation a must, moderate sailing ability.
  • Level 3 - Coastal Skipper. Pre-requisites: 15 days' sea time (minimum two days as skipper), 300 miles logged, eight night hours logged, navigation knowledge to yacht master theory standard, sailng ability exceeding day skipper practical standard.

Course itinerary:

  • Sunday: Arrive at base at 4pm to complete paperwork and board vessel. First night in Hamilton Island Marina with free time to enjoy the island resort and prepare for the course to commence in the morning.
  • Monday 8am - Friday 5pm: Practical course carried out under the guidance of a qualified RYA instructor. The vessel used is a Jeanneau 44, with capacity for five students and one instructor. Prices are based on a cabin/berth rate.
  • Friday: After 5pm you are able to stay onboard for the final night once the course has been completed. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the week's achievement and socialise with the other participants.
  • Saturday: Students depart vessel by 10am for their return journey. Or, if you wish to charter a yacht in the Whitsundays for a few days to consolidate your new skills, contact our sales team to check availability and pricing.
